Youth Lagoon's music has been described as "noir rock," often incorporating lyrical themes of rural noir, drug use, spirituality, family, and fantasy and includes elements of neo-psychedelia, pop, Americana, electronic and experimental music. Powers was initially active as Youth Lagoon.
